Baked beans are always a great barbeque side dish. Normally you are at the mercy of sugar-laden canned baked beans or you need to plan a full day ahead to make them. Today I share with you my super simple almost-instant baked bean recipe. I’ve made these beans with a moment’s notice at least a dozen times this summer. They travel well and are a great contribution to potlucks. I also make baked beans “from scratch” (that is, from dry beans) and you can find the recipe for that version (as well as this one) in my Good and Easy Eats ebook.
Super Easy Baked Beans
2 15 oz. cans of beans- navy, Great Northern or pinto
2 Tbsp. molasses
2 Tbsp. ketchup (check the ingredient list to verify that it is made with whole, natural ingredients)
1 tsp. prepared mustard
1/4- 1/2 sea salt
opt: 2 Tbsp. dried minced onion
Heat all ingredients in a saucepan for at least 20 minutes before serving. That’s it!
That’s a great recipe! Love that it is so quick and easy! Definitely more than doable. I was wondering if you drain and rinse the canned beans before adding the remaining ingredients. Thanks!
I usually drain the beans, but you don’t need to rinse them unless you’re concerned about the sodium.
How can it be sugar free if it has molasses in it?
I should specify that it is free of refined sugars. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
